Perched on the edge of the Pacific Rim and on the edge of Barkley Sound, the pristine waters off Ucluelet remain some of the least explored on British Columbia's coast.

Once we leave the harbour and head into the George Fraser group of islands, there is the feeling that everything has remained the same here since the beginning of time.

The marine life is largely undisturbed at the sight of divers. Some of the most spectacular, ocean swell-swept reefs in Barkley Sound are just 10 - 15 minutes from Ucluelet. Giant Pacific octopus, gooseneck barnacles, surf anemones, and in the spring... curious sea lions and the occasional surface sighting of Gray and Humpback Whales!

Lance Blackwell and Marilyn McEwen - both divers in B.C. water for over 20 years. Marilyn is a professional photographer, both topside and below the surface. Lance has been involved in teaching, chartering and professional diving since 1978. Lance is also Coast Guard certified in the operation of rigid hulled inflatables and small craft in the often unpredictable open ocean environment of the West Coast. An avid film maker, Lance still retains his youthful enthusiasm for diving, don't be surprised if you find yourself the main subject amidst a school of black bass, as the camera whirs and the lights shine!

Remember that the world-famous Pacific Rim National Park and Long Beach are just 15 minutes from Ucluelet. Beautiful beaches (both sandy and rocky ones), rain forests, the Broken Group Islands (known well to kayakers), galleries, gift shops, hikes, and even cappuccino bars are all within 30 minutes of Ucluelet.
