History and Mission

The Bamfield Arts Council began in 1993 and was incorporated April 11, 1994. From the beginning the mandate has been similar to most Arts Councils, that is "to promote and support artistic activities in the community".
This has been accomplished by:
~ Childrens art classes managed by the Bamfield Community School
~ Bursery program - each year 3 are awarded for fall and spring sessions.
~ The Summer Arts Fest - held each July on the Coast Guard Lawn. Most local crafts people as well as people from other places in the mid-Island region, sell their art at stalls. Local, or "imported" musicians entertain the crowds, and local caterers provide a variety of delicious food. There is always a booth for children's artistic activities - painting, drawing, dance, drama, music.l
~ Coffee Houses held from time to time either at the community hall or in people's homes. We are interested in performers - especially folk musicians who would enjoy coming to Bamfield. We can't pay much but can provide transportation, accomodation, beautiful scenery, interesting "characters", and a good time.
~  Craft Workshops - held each winter and spring instructed by local people for local people. They cover such topics as christmas decorations, easter eggs, candle making, stain glass, watercolour painting, paper making, etc.

Bamfield is very proud of its local crafts people.
The Arts Council hopes to hold a weekend workshop for artists who would like to paint in Barclay Sound, the Broken Islands group, Pachena Bay, Brady's Beach. Please let us know if you are interested and the month that you would like to come. Our preference is May, June, September and possibly October. There is a variety of living accomodations and charter boats to take you to beautiful places!
